Rekindling the Beauty of Wavy Hair

Rekindling the Beauty of Wavy Hair

Assalamu Alaikum, my dear sisters,

Wavy hair is a blessing its effortless texture and natural movement are a reflection of the beauty Allah has created in us. Yet, as hijabis or busy women, we sometimes neglect our hair, letting it lose its shine and vibrance. Today, I want to help you bring your wavy hair back to life with a unique routine designed just for type 2 hair.

This routine is inspired by natural ingredients and the wisdom of traditional hair care practices. We’ll explore why specific ingredients, like argan oil and aloe vera, work wonders for wavy hair and how to easily incorporate them into your routine.
For sisters with a tighter budget, I’ll also share a DIY alternative to achieve similar results.

Step 1: Cleanse and Soften with Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner

A good foundation for healthy wavy hair starts with cleansing and nourishing it properly. I’ve chosen Lavidoux’s Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner for this step because the brand represents centuries of expertise (established in 1849!) and a commitment to natural, high-quality products.

Why Argan Oil and Amber Extract?

Argan Oil: Known as “liquid gold,” this oil is packed with Vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants that help moisturize, repair damage, and tame frizz.

Amber Extract: This unique ingredient strengthens hair, boosts elasticity, and adds a natural glow, leaving your waves soft and manageable.

How to Use:

1. Rinse your hair with lukewarm water to open the hair cuticles.

2. Massage a small amount of shampoo onto your scalp, focusing on removing dirt and oil buildup.

3. Rinse thoroughly, then apply the conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends.

4. Leave the conditioner on for 2–3 minutes before rinsing with cool water to seal in moisture.

This combination of cleansing and conditioning helps hydrate wavy hair without weighing it down, keeping your waves bouncy and full of life.

Step 2: Restore and Refresh with Aloe Vera Serum

Once your hair is clean, the next step is to revive its texture and shine. Aloe vera is a miraculous plant that thrives in the harshest desert climates. Just as it stores moisture for survival, it brings that same hydration to your hair, giving it a rejuvenated, silky feel.

Why Aloe Vera?

Rich in enzymes and vitamins that repair damaged hair.

Hydrates deeply, smoothing frizz and leaving hair feeling refreshed and renewed.

How to Use:

1. Towel-dry your hair gently to remove excess water.

2. Apply a small amount of aloe vera serum to the lengths and ends of your hair.

3. Allow your hair to air-dry or style as usual.

This step will leave your hair feeling like it’s been reborn, silky and full of life, without any greasiness or buildup.

Step 3: Indulge in a Moroccan Oil Bath for Deep Care

One of the secrets I learned during my travels to Morocco is the beauty of an argan oil bath for hair. Moroccan women have been using this method for centuries to protect their hair from the harsh desert climate and to enhance its natural beauty.

The History of Argan Oil Baths

In Morocco, argan oil is considered a sacred gift from Allah. Extracted from the argan tree, which grows exclusively in this region, it has been used for generations to deeply hydrate and strengthen hair. This practice, passed down through time, ensures that even the harshest environments cannot take away the beauty of their waves.

How to Do an Oil Bath:

1. Warm 2–3 tablespoons of pure argan oil (avoid overheating).

2. Massage the oil gently into your scalp and work it through the lengths of your hair.

3. Wrap your hair in a warm towel or cover it with a shower cap.

4. Leave the oil in for 1–2 hours (or overnight for intense hydration).

5. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow with shampoo and conditioner.

This traditional practice will leave your wavy hair nourished, shiny, and beautifully soft.

DIY Routine for Sisters on a Budget

If you don’t have access to these products, here’s a simple DIY alternative that uses natural ingredients to care for your waves:

DIY Argan Oil Shampoo: Mix 1 cup of unscented castile soap, 2 tablespoons of argan oil, and a few drops of orange essential oil.

DIY Conditioner: Blend 1 tablespoon of honey with 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt. Apply to the ends of your hair after shampooing, leave for 5 minutes, and rinse.

DIY Aloe Vera Serum: Extract fresh aloe vera gel and mix it with 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Apply a small amount to damp hair to hydrate and define your waves.

Why This Routine Matters?

In Islam, caring for ourselves is a way of fulfilling the trust (amanah) Allah has given us. Our hair, whether seen by others or not, is part of this trust, and maintaining it reflects gratitude for Allah’s blessings.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) emphasized cleanliness and self-care, reminding us that these acts are beloved to Allah. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet said:

“Whoever has hair, let him care for it properly.”

Sisters, this isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about mindfulness taking the time to nurture what Allah has given us with halal and ethical choices. When we care for our hair using pure and natural products, it aligns with the Islamic principle of choosing what is wholesome (tayyib).

Moreover, self-care can be a reminder to reconnect with Allah.
As you massage your scalp or nourish your hair, take the time to make dhikr, thanking Allah for His countless blessings. This transforms an everyday routine into a spiritual act, combining inner and outer beauty.

Let’s honour ourselves, dear sisters, as Allah intended embracing the beauty of what He has given us with care and humility.

With love and duas,

Your sister in faith
